The construction of Twabane Luzibo School, part of the Zambezi School Project, began in April 2022, bringing hope to the children of Muke and Delevu Villages in Zambia. Initially, we aimed to build a preschool for 104 children. The project quickly expanded to accommodate students aged two to sixteen from five local villages through our expansion from just a pre-school to a pre and primary school. Previously, children in these villages had to learn under challenging conditions (on the floor of a village church) or not at all.
The community played a vital role in the construction, with every builder living within walking distance of the school. This local involvement ensured a smooth building process and fostered a sense of ownership. Despite logistical challenges, the determination and resilience of the community and project organisers kept the construction on track.
Twabane Luzibo, meaning “sharing in knowledge” in Lozi, reflects the school’s mission of spreading education and opportunities to all, not just the few.
The school now offers a wide range of subjects, providing a comprehensive education and a strong foundation for the children’s futures.
Images of the building process capture the transformation from an empty plot to a thriving school, showcasing moments of construction, community collaboration, and the joyous faces of children attending their new school. This project stands as a testament to the power of community and the positive change it can bring.
